"O Canada! Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North, strong and free!
From far and wide, O Canada,
We stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free !
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee."
As the National Anthem
Act only sets the melody for the anthem, musicians are free to
arrange the score to suit their requirements. There is no copyright on the melody and the words of the
national anthem, the Act having declared them to be in the public domain. It is possible, however, to
copyright the arrangements made to the melody. It is possible to translate the
words of the national anthem in languages other than English or French; it should be kept in mind, however,
that this translated version will not have an official status.
